Silent Retreat
Our silent retreats are geared toward those with an already existing practice, they include 7 to 8 hours per day of silent sitting. In the early stages of the retreat occasional guidance, reminders and pointers are interspersed through the sits and taper off as the participants deepen into the practice. Kirtan, or devotional chanting, is included occasionally to refresh during longer stretches of sitting.
This retreat offering differs from the more common Vipassana style retreat in terms of the emphasis of some of the practices that are shared, as well as the length of continuous sits. While breath awareness and presencing are key, we also lead participants into an exploration of the energetics of the subtle body and encourage practices of pranayam, or breath work, that are the true underpinning of classical Raj Yoga. There are four sits lasting 2 hours each, giving enough time for all of the subtle mechanics of the body/mind to deeply settle each time.
This approach can bring you into a deeply interiorized state of meditation quickly and release the hold that the restless body has upon one’s consciousness.
While our retreats are commonly hosted at our original site, we are working to host these retreats elsewhere and are open to collaboration and invitations to host them at other venues. As with our other Yoga Life Programs, we are available for consultations with those who are interested in developing their own similar retreats.
